Who is Suzanne Somers?

A health role model, an actress, an author, a singer and a businesswoman – these are among the roles Suzanne Somers played in her life. Best of all, she is a worldwide author these days of one of the most popular weight loss program for women forty years and beyond – Sexy Forever and Slim and Sexy Forever.

Suzanne Somers was born in October 16, 1946 at San Bruno, California. Her father, Frank Mahoney, worked by loading beers onto boxcars and her mother, Marion Mahoney, was a homemaker. She was third in four children and at a young age suffered dyslexia. Although she suffered a terrible fate in the hand of an abusive alcoholic father, she excelled in acts and was active in theater even at school.

Her first husband was Bruce Somers, a lawyer, and they had a son named Bruce Somers Jr. in November 1865. However, their marriage came to an end after two years. In 1968, she became a prize model of a game show hosted by Alan Hamel, her future husband. Soon they married and Suzanne had a step son named Steven and a step-daughter named Leslie.

Somers earned acting roles during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Although these roles are mostly uncredited, still, Somers find her way to stardom in the succeeding years. She became a regular in some of the TV series in the 1970s including the Three’s Company in 1976 and the American Graffiti in 1973. Somers continued her being an actress as she still accepts roles in the 80s and 90s including Step-by-step in 1991 to 1998 and the Love Struck in 1997. By 1997-99, Somers became a cohost in the revived Candid Camera Show.

In 1991, Somers lectured a U.S. Senate Committee on the effects of addiction on the family and had been awarded a Humanitarian Award from the National Council on Alcoholism, Mother of the Year Award and the President’s Award from the National Association of American Drug Counselors.

Her years of becoming an author started as she writes several best-selling books including the Keeping Secrets in 1988. It is her personal account of her early years with her abusive father. Recipe books are also a part of her collections including Eat Grease, Lose Weight and Get Skinny on Fabulous Food. Now lots of women are achieving the right kind of body they always desire even at a tough age with the different programs authored by Somers. With these accomplishments, any woman in the world would now recognize the name Suzanne Somers.
